Gaea's Chosen: The Mayday Directive is very well-written, and the author obviously put a lot of thought into the plot and characters. I look forward to the next in the series. Mar 26, J. The most notable thing for me was the premise. It has heavy similarities in the premise of Stephan Lawhead's Empyrion books. At least as far as a ship hitting an anomaly and ending up at a destination many thousands of years after it was supposed to.
I have to say, I wasn't surprised, because I have read a lot of her flash fiction, and Cara is a very good writer.

This well written, well executed, action packed tale follows Commander Gemma Bryant and her futuristic human crew exploring the universe, fighting intense battles and yearning for love. A great read that will leave you wanting more! Great value for your money! Feb 26, Teresa rated it it was amazing Shelves: action-adventure , aliens , dystopian , good-premise , great-plot-twist , science-fiction , suspense. What's not to like about this book? Everything worked. I won't go into the plot; it's been covered. Michaels built a world that was absolutely fascinating, wrote characters that were multidimensional, and placed them in a situation that pulled the reader into the story with them.
It's a good thing this book is short, I guess, because I couldn't put it down. On the other hand, I wasn't ready for it to end. I'd definitely read more of this author's work. Feb 02, Jesse Freeman rated it it was amazing. I really enjoyed this book. I found it completely engaging, smart, funny, genuinely cool and seriously well written. Great sci-fi and world building - strong characters and there were monsters and I know what arc-swords are now - that kinda badassary is right up my alley. I would recommend this book to anyone who's down with some adventure, some lost in space, and some sweet cryogenic-lovin'.
Apr 04, Aniko Carmean rated it really liked it. Commander Gemma Bryant wakes in her stasis pod on Gaea's Ark, a spaceship named for the AI controlling the eons long flight from Earth to a deep space destination. There are immediate problems. Crew members are missing, their pods jettisoned into space.
The AI is panicked, hysterical, and unable to answer basic questions. In fact, Gaea has no idea where they have landed. In addition to all of these problems, Gemma has another, achingly human problem: she is physically attracted to a man she does Commander Gemma Bryant wakes in her stasis pod on Gaea's Ark, a spaceship named for the AI controlling the eons long flight from Earth to a deep space destination.
Gaea's Chosen: Event Horizon
It is night time on the planet where they have landed, a distressingly long night that spans what would amount to days on Earth. They crew waits for the sunrise, getting back in shape after their long confinement to the stasis pods. They wait, but it is finally emotion and sexual tension, not the sunrise, that drives Gemma to lead the crew out of Gaea. What does it mean to be lost, on a universal scale? Should Artificial Intelligence be strictly about computing, or should it be programmed to have emotions? Is it acceptable to enact a kind of eugenics in the name of the survival of the species?
What does it mean to be human? How long until Gemma gets some? Sexual tension, love, and longing are central to the Mayday Directive and, it seems, central to any definition of humanity in Michaels's fictional mythos. Oct 09, J. Lewis rated it it was amazing. Gaea's Chosen, while not a long read, is packed full of story!
Imagine boarding a spaceship, knowing full well it would be at least 10, years before you got to your destination. Who of us could do that? I did some calculating in my head, and when you woke up, anyone of your family would of course be long gone, and if you had a long distance phone, you could talk to your cousin, times removed! The concept boggles the mind.
In this action packed novella, you have love, hate, sorrow, action, and adventure. So yes, Gaea's Chosen is definitely worth your time to read, and Cara Michaels is definitely worth your time to follow. JT Lewis Dec 23, J. Filipowicz rated it it was amazing. The story centers around Gemma Bryant, a character who oozes pure awesomeness. If only it were longer! I immediately went searching for the next installment in the series.

While dealing with the man who is supposed to be her 'mate' on the future world that they are going to populate, who has shown his dislike of her in return, her mind shifts to other things and how one doesn't always have to follow the prime directive of their mission when the ship has a mind of her own.
This is a promising start from this author. May 19, Liv Therese rated it it was amazing. I was given this series as a wedding-present, and I couldn't wait to get started! While not a full novel, it feels like one, because there's so much information and story going on, that I felt fully satisfied after having read it. As a sci-fi story, it brought new elements to it, but still I kept pace with everything that went down. I sympathized with their loss, and understood their anger. There was romance where I hoped there would be, and even in places I found to be surprisingly enjoyable.
T I was given this series as a wedding-present, and I couldn't wait to get started! The MC, Gemma Bryant, is intriguing, and highly interesting, so with every word I got sucked in deeper. I loved each character, and they were very diverse and beautifully written. The setup of the world was very intense, and plausible, which left me wanting for more. I recommend this whole-heartedly, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

You can't strand contrived circumstances that do nothing but get the author out of a corner they've written him or her self in to. How will this affect your perception of them if their book is drivel?
Mayday Directive is funny, exciting, and she Exciting Can't wait to read the next installment! This is the first tale in my Gaea's Chosen series, a science fiction serial adventure.
